What keep us together

June 23, 2008

A football match.. Not just a football match.

It’s one of those things that keep us together.

It’s the reason why Banting and Dengkil are rivals and still bestfriends.

It’s everything for some of us.

Do not take away football from us PAS.

Please, I beg you.

Football match goes on

June 20, 2008

The youth wing of Malaysia’s opposition Islamic party said Thursday it will not hold a protest against two women who were to sing at a football match after a local leader criticised their plan.

The group had threatened to protest at the stadium hosting the match between Selangor and Singapore.

However the Sultan of Selangor, Sharafuddin Idris Shah, said he would cancel the entire football tournament after learning of the group’s plan, a report said Wednesday.

The Sultan said the protest over the two women — rock singer Ella and Mas Idayu, who performs the hip-swivelling “dangdut” dance — was “hypocritical” and “trivial.”

PAS youth chief, Salahuddin Ayub, said the leadership had decided it would not hold a protest but would send a letter to the state government.

“We want the organisers to make sure the concert will not promote negative culture among the young,” he said Thursday. “We are very concerned since social ills like drug abuse among the young is increasing.”

Malaysia’s population is predominantly Muslim, and the nation’s sultans are the traditional guardians of Islam in the states they rule.

PAS, which rules the northern state of Kelantan, has had ambitions of turning Malaysia into a theocratic state under Islamic rule.

But in recent years it has begun introducing reforms designed to tone down its hardline reputation and woo young voters. (AFP)

ps- drug abuse all of sudden? It’s not a performance perform by Jamal Abdillah or Salim. It’s a friendly football match for the whole family to enjoy watching with for goodness sake.

PAS don’t have a single concrete base to support their statement at the first place. How to rule the nation then? Kelantan is not all perfect and peaceful Islamic state either. They maybe have the lowest crime rate but that doesn’t proof anything. Maybe because all the policemen in PAS districts aren’t strict like other places. Too lazy to file in reports? or to lazy to do their duties? Streotype we always hear is that women there work hard for family income while the husbands talk politic, drink coffee, stay at home or ‘play’ ‘checkers’ at some ‘warong’. Some of the fellas there have 4 wives. All 4 wives working. The husband? Go figure.

I heard that many ex- convicts and drug addicts ‘healed’ and joined PAS. Maybe too many of that population there inside the party and they can’t think straight anymore. Well, just maybe.

PAS riot on everything, now the Sultan is upset

June 18, 2008

An upset Sultan of Selangor has threatened to call off future Sultan of Selangor Cup matches between his state and Singapore if the protest by the state PAS Youth against two artistes performing for the event went ahead.

Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah described the protest over rock queen Ella and dangdut singer Mas Idayu as “hypocritical” and “trivial”.

On Monday, Selangor PAS Youth submitted a memoradum to the Selangor Mentri Besar’s office to protest against plans to have Ella and Mas Idayu perform at the match on July 6. The youth wing threatened to stage a demonstration at the Shah Alam Stadium if Ella and Mas Idayu were allowed to performed.

The Sultan of Selangor said there were more important issues that the party could focus on.

“The organising committee even planned for the performance by the singers to end before the maghrib prayers. They are performers suitable for the family and I don’t know what the fuss is all about,” he said.

“The idea of holding the performance is to create goodwill and bring the people together before the match. Sports and music bring people together,” he said.

ps- The other singer is David Arumugam of Alleycats, and the most interesting thing about that is PAS didn’t even protest against him performing at all (to avoid racial statement I guess). And I also heard that PAS is opening memberships to Indians and Chinese. Anyone interested? no concert, no football, no fun.

news: the Star (sultan to pas: call off protest or i call off matches by wong chun wai)
