The facts of high oil prices : It’s a global dilemma

June 29, 2008

Oil prices on June 28, hit record of $142.99 at 1:58 p.m., the highest since 1983 and to $142.97, the highest intraday price since 1988, owing to a weak dollar, geopolitical unrest and global equities slump.

Who is really to blame for expensive oil prices?

1) OPEC, consisting of Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela, was formed to maintain the price of oil at a level most beneficial to its membership considered as a whole, and is considered to be a cartel by some observers.

2) The reason of the oil price hike is simple. Oil is priced in US dollars; therefore oil prices are strongly linked to the condition of the US Dollar. With the decline of the dollar to record lows against the Euro, it has spurred buying across commodities, notably oil.

3) The demand for oil is highly dependent on global macroeconomic conditions, so this is also an important determinant of price. Demand is very high.

What is our option?

1) Need a solution to cure the sleeplessness and frustration of daily woes and PROBLEMS? Support the change, otherwise, the problem simply continues. The government is helping us. Believe it or not.

2) MAKE THE CHANGE! energy independence? Yes we can! Change our lifestyle, adapt to the reality of the current situation, take public transportations, share rides, eat healthy diet, earn more than you spend. We are Malaysians and.. MALAYSIA BOLEH!

ps- to protes over oil price at this time of the year is so irrelevent and useless. do not give yourself headache. BE WISE!

The daily also reported Ezam as saying:

The jewels of our nation, laughter is simply the best medicine

June 28, 2008

A lecturer teaching medicine was giving a class on ‘Observation’. He took out a jar of yellow-colored liquid.

“This”, he explained,”is urine. To be a good doctor, you have to be observant to color, smell, sight and taste.” After saying this, he dipped his finger into the jar and put it into his mouth.

His class watched on in amazement, most, in disgust. But being the students that they were, the jar was passed, and one by one, they dipped one finger into the jar and then put it into their mouth.

After the last student was done, the lecturer shook his head. “If any of you had been observant, you would have noticed that I put my 2nd finger into the jar and my 3rd finger into my mouth.”

ps- Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) medical faculty will be able to increase its students’ intake by more than 100 percent in the year 2011. Presently, the faculty can accept some 70 students per intake each year, but they will be able to raise this total to 150 students per intake once UMS’ RM259 million medical faculty development project is complete in three years’ time.

Proton cars to ‘transform’

June 27, 2008

Malaysia’s national carmaker Proton on Friday launched a “zero-defect” campaign aimed at erasing a reputation for poor quality that has left it struggling to compete against foreign competitors.

Proton managing director Syed Zainal Abidin also announced plans to fit all models with natural gas tanks from October to help motorists beat the rising cost of fuel. The move follows a 41 percent petrol price hike this month.

However, the carmaker is pushing ahead with plans to roll out its first multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) next March, saying there was also demand for the gas-guzzling models, which are popular with large Malaysian families.

Syed Zainal said some 60 percent of defects in Proton cars were due to poor quality components from vendors, but admitted the rest of the blame fell on the firm’s workforce.

Proton said in February it had made net profits for two quarters in a row, thanks to lower operating costs and increased car sales.

However, it still booked a net loss of 32.92 million ringgit (10 million dollars) for the nine months to December, although it was smaller than the 590.448 million ringgit loss a year earlier.

Malaysia PM denies his deputy’s wife involved in sensational killing of Mongolian woman

June 24, 2008

Malaysia’s leader has denied that his deputy’s wife was involved in the killing of a young Mongolian woman.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi says action will be taken against blogger Raja Petra Raja Kamaruddin who made the allegation.

Raja Petra signed a sworn statement earlier this month claiming he has evidence that the wife of Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak, Rosmah, had a role in the killing of Altantuya Shaariibuu. Raja Petra was earlier charged with sedition for implying that Najib Razak was involved in her death.

Speaking Tuesday, Abdullah said Raja Petra’s actions were “unacceptable,” and that he did not believe the couple were involved in Shaariibuu’s death.

The 28-year-old Shaariibuu was apparently blown up with explosives in 2006.

What keep us together

June 23, 2008

A football match.. Not just a football match.

It’s one of those things that keep us together.

It’s the reason why Banting and Dengkil are rivals and still bestfriends.

It’s everything for some of us.

Do not take away football from us PAS.

Please, I beg you.

A 90-year-old man tells about Pak Lah

June 21, 2008

While suturing a laceration on the hand of a 90-year-old man, the doctor asked his patient how he thought Pak Lah was doing as Prime Minister.

The old man said, “Ya know, Pak Lah is a post turtle.” Not knowing what the old man meant, the doctor asked him what a “post turtle” was.

He said, “Did you ever drive down a country road and come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top? You know he didn’t get there by himself, he doesn’t belong there, he can’t get anything done while he’s up there, and you just want to help the poor thing down..

That’s a post turtle.”

Football match goes on

June 20, 2008

The youth wing of Malaysia’s opposition Islamic party said Thursday it will not hold a protest against two women who were to sing at a football match after a local leader criticised their plan.

The group had threatened to protest at the stadium hosting the match between Selangor and Singapore.

However the Sultan of Selangor, Sharafuddin Idris Shah, said he would cancel the entire football tournament after learning of the group’s plan, a report said Wednesday.

The Sultan said the protest over the two women — rock singer Ella and Mas Idayu, who performs the hip-swivelling “dangdut” dance — was “hypocritical” and “trivial.”

PAS youth chief, Salahuddin Ayub, said the leadership had decided it would not hold a protest but would send a letter to the state government.

“We want the organisers to make sure the concert will not promote negative culture among the young,” he said Thursday. “We are very concerned since social ills like drug abuse among the young is increasing.”

Malaysia’s population is predominantly Muslim, and the nation’s sultans are the traditional guardians of Islam in the states they rule.

PAS, which rules the northern state of Kelantan, has had ambitions of turning Malaysia into a theocratic state under Islamic rule.

But in recent years it has begun introducing reforms designed to tone down its hardline reputation and woo young voters. (AFP)

ps- drug abuse all of sudden? It’s not a performance perform by Jamal Abdillah or Salim. It’s a friendly football match for the whole family to enjoy watching with for goodness sake.

PAS don’t have a single concrete base to support their statement at the first place. How to rule the nation then? Kelantan is not all perfect and peaceful Islamic state either. They maybe have the lowest crime rate but that doesn’t proof anything. Maybe because all the policemen in PAS districts aren’t strict like other places. Too lazy to file in reports? or to lazy to do their duties? Streotype we always hear is that women there work hard for family income while the husbands talk politic, drink coffee, stay at home or ‘play’ ‘checkers’ at some ‘warong’. Some of the fellas there have 4 wives. All 4 wives working. The husband? Go figure.

I heard that many ex- convicts and drug addicts ‘healed’ and joined PAS. Maybe too many of that population there inside the party and they can’t think straight anymore. Well, just maybe.
